Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 220 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing, reading, and thinking on a weekly basis in an informal setting.

Before the Train and After
This story is dark. It talks about one of the characters getting his hand chopped off by a train. His girlfriend doesn't consider him the same anymore. It is like the hand cut off changed their lives. They don't look at him the same way as they used to. He risked his hand on the rail tracks. He wanted to show that he can put his hand on the cool tracks. The train was coming too fast and it took his hand off. The story is basically explaining how one event can change peoples lives. In this story it was a change for the bad. It made his girlfriend depressed because she didn't feel like he was the same person.
