Letter from Williamsburg Intro/Conclusion Analysis

The intro for Letter from Williamsburg seems to introduce a woman who has lost something. She explains this loss as being a lost connection with God. After her college years she's able to explain the details of her faith yet she struggles to rediscover the euphoric feeling she experienced when God "entered" her room.

This introduction makes me think the rest of the story will be the main character continuing her life without God. When she describes the different types of prayers and the inevitable thoughts that go through her head, I suspect she'll encounter something relating to the nature of having god in her life and probably losing him along the way.

The conclusion seems to teach the main character something about herself and her God. She spends a great amount of time having sexual open relationships with her partner and realizes this sense of loneliness or disconnect when her S.O. turns his attention to another girl. She makes the connection to having these sexual experiences as a form of eating from the tree of knowledge. "The guy not making me feel whole during sex is making me feel bad." That's a generalized blunt way of putting it. She sees the emotional/physical bliss from the height of sexual intimacy/pleasure as Gods connection to her. I also liked her comment of monogamous people and how they must already understand the danger (in a sense) of having polygamous relationships. The danger being, knowing what the emotional pain could be when having sex with more than one person. You can multi-task, but receiving someones full attention is usually much better.
