Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 220 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing, reading, and thinking on a weekly basis in an informal setting.

Laramie class reading
when reading the play it seems like the people of the town are trying to cope and understand how this can happen to a person in their town. Many people tried to justify the crime and others took away from the hate crime by saying it could happen to anyone. I feel like whenever something bad happens people dig deep in to the victims lives and facts that may not be as appealing get twisted against the victim. Instead of being unconditionally sympathetic to the person who just died we watch their entire lives get put on trial. Many of the townsmen seemed genuine but when there are further descriptions of the characters it seemed like the sympathy was fake.
