"Through sickness and health until death do us part" that's part of one vow a man and a women gives in their marriag, in story it seems as the husband got injured one of his hand has been cut off, the wife cannot forget the trauma of the accident while her husband trying to stay positive about it, For her it's a reminder of how life was before the accident and how it will not be the same. He seems to show her that's nothing chang (even though it is) he is trying to keep it as normal as possible. I will say that through marriage you don't know what will happened, the wife (Alison) sounds as she has regrets she doesn't see her husband as that strong, funny man anymore in her eyes he persaud as weak, for her the physicality of that person (=husband) is some what the basic of her love to him.
