Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 220 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing, reading, and thinking on a weekly basis in an informal setting.

Before and after the train
This story, like many flash fictions, jumps right into what is happening or is about to happen. It's through the actions of the characters that we learn about their personalities, the rest our imagination is supposed to fill in the gaps. From the story we can surmise that Jeremy is a bit childish. His wanting to touch the train, is an obtrusive thought that lots of ppl have, but he decides to act on it. An interesting thing it does though are the time skips. We don't see the inner machinations of the protagonist for too long before it jumps ahead again. We know she dreams of another man, and she cheats on her husband with said man, but we only get to imagine what happens between those time skips, she doesn't say what happens, how she feels about it, only just what happens then and there. It's a bit discombobulating. It sorta pushes the limit on how much of the story is burdened to the readers imagination. Which I personally don't like, some people like filling in gaps but not me.
