Response to Bicentennial stanza 11

My interpretation of this stanza is that back in the day from when he was experiencing his childhood these people community that he was nearby had a certain vibe or “radiance” that came from the people near this stained-glass chapel by the dorm. The students had a sort of way of living as if in “Code”. He talks of the girls that, from far away, are now turning sixty.

I guess what he was trying to get at was the difference that the Chapel/Dormitory had given light to. The "folk" flare he speaks of makes me feel as if it wasn't the norm for him and had shown him a different side of the neighborhood.
