Hi John here. Please excuse my name on this blog. It'll be fixed later.

I chose Why Poetry and I'll start with the questions listed.

1. This is an autobiography because the author uses the first person point of view to discuss instances of his past. He talks about this briefly in the first two stanzas saying, "I longed for something to which to apprentice myself." He explains he wished he could amount himself to something.

2. In the third stanza he explains he couldn't become his mother for reasons that are obvious yet still complicated. The author is male judging by the name and he says, "other boys" in the fifth stanza. What I got from this was the narrator cant become is mother because he wasn't a female. However the fourth stanza explains he felt awkward playing baseball. Baseball is generally considered a male dominated sport so he must not have felt very masculine with his athletic ineptitude. Perhaps he doesn't see himself as a typical young boy.
