Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 220 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing, reading, and thinking on a weekly basis in an informal setting.

Ashes reading response
Really powerful, moving prose. I was on the verge of tears if I'm being honest. That cut deep.
A man walks into a bar 1
A man walks into a bar, he sees a pirate sitting there with a steering wheel between his legs and a pained look on his face.
"What's the steering wheel for?" The pirate finishes his rum.
"Aargh, it's driving me nuts."

Finishing Up
Since this week is only a partial week, any entries you make on the blog will be extra credit. I'll take entries up until the end of the official final exam period for our class (again, there is no final for this class): 2:30-4:30, W 12/19. For these final entries, you may:
- Reflect on what you've learned this term, what was most valuable for you in the class, and what you hope to continue working on afterward.
- Respond to your classmates' readings from Wed. night (give a shout out to any stand-out readings).
- Share any final writings you'd like here.
- Share any book/story/poem titles you've found inspiring. (Feel free to post web links.)
- Or anything else related to the class, to writing or reading, or anything else even tangentially related.

After the film
I really enjoyed the film adaptation and how they chose to make small changes such as not including the plane so the journey would feel longer. As well as the addition to the dialogue between the first alternate Olympian and Victor, because the scene really displayed Victor beliefs/ perspective as a character. The scene also captured the differences between Thomas and Victor personalities. I also enjoyed the addition of montages of the characters saying goodbye to Victor's dad, it was executed well.
Dependent
This is a poem I have been working on for the past 2 weeks it's not finished yet but I would appreciate the feedback
Dependent
Cradled in warmth
Smothered with love
Cared for every second
Not knowing who I am
What are my thoughts
Which are there’s
What are my ethics
What do I believe
Do I dare stray
Do I have a choice
Every choice already made
To seperate
To be my own being
How do I do anything
Without their guidance
I am inexperienced
I need to know
I cannot stay a infant
I must grow
I must learn
To walk to eat
To then cook
To take care of myself
So when I leave
I am strong
Not weak
To be man
To do my own thing
To go my own path
Not to swayed
Left or right
For I am not a child
At least not anymore
I make my own decisions
To be or not to be
That's my choice
No one else’s
